What to Know About Carpeting in Rhode Island & Massachusetts

While hardwood flooring is a popular choice for our clients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, it’s not the only type of flooring available to you. In fact, we’re seeing more and more homeowners throughout Warwick, Cranston, RI and Blackstone, Mansfield, Attleboro settle on carpeting to complete their home projects.

But why is that?

Carpeting is warmer and cozier than hardwood flooring. If you’re looking to make a room a little bit more comfortable, designing a room that will allow kids to play comfortably on the floors, or looking for a less slippery surface to walk on, carpet may be the best choice for you. What are the benefits of installing carpet?

The benefits of carpet in your RI or MA home

  • Carpeting offers a cozy flooring choice that eliminates fear of falling
  • It helps with allergies by trapping allergens out of the air
  • The extra cushion offered by carpeting helps insulate sound, making your home and business quieter

Advances in fiber and backing technologies have made carpeting more durable, as well as elegant, so you can match your carpet to your home’s design and not worry about wear and tear from pets or children.

Frequently Asked Questions About Carpet Installation in Rhode Island & Mass

  • Plush- This carpeting option has a smooth, even look and offers a more luxurious aesthetic to your home.  But, because of the smooth finish, it can get damaged in high traffic areas.
  • Textured- Textured options are made with low density fibers of uneven heights.  Because of the uneven surface, dirt and stains are harder to see.  It’s a more informal option, and it can work in any area of your home.
  • Cable- This is a great carpeting option to make a room a little more cozy.  Thick, long fibers provide a soft feeling underfoot when you walk on it, but it can get matted if there’s too many people walking over it.  It’s a great option for bedrooms, but not for places in your home where a lot of traffic takes place.
  • Frieze- This carpet design has a more informal look to it.  Long fibers with more twists hide footprints and other marks better than other carpeting options, and the durability means it’s a good choice for high traffic parts of your home.  If the piles are longer, this carpet is usually called a “shag” rug.
  • Saxony- Saxony has longer fibers than plush carpeting, and the fibers have a twist to them that tend to show footprints and other marks more than other carpeting options.  This means it’s not great for high traffic areas or areas where there’s a lot of kid’s activity going on.
  • Berber- This is also known as “level loop” style carpeting.  Berber has short looped fibers that are great for high traffic areas because they are so durable.  The finished look is informal and the coloring can hide dirt and stains, but the seams are more visible because of the fiber’s height.
  • Cut and Loop– Cut and Loop is a combination of cut pile and loop pile fibers.  The combination adds texture that hides footprints, stains, and dirt, which makes it a great option for highly trafficked areas.
  • Patterned Multi-Level Loop– This option is exactly what it sounds like- the loops that make up the carpet are multiple levels which adds texture to the carpet, or they can create a pattern for the carpet.  It stands up well under foot traffic.

The best part about installing carpet is that there is no drying time involved. Once your carpet is installed you have full reign of the new area.  Just be aware that the adhesive may have an odor for up to 48 hours after the installation, and that your carpet may be shedding fibers for the first few days after its installation.

Most carpeting we install in homes across RI, MA and CT has a lifespan of about 10-12 years.  Once it reaches that point, it is usually threadbare, matted, and lacking the luster of a brand new carpet.

Using vacuums or steam cleaners regularly  will help keep your carpet looking like new.  Also, dealing with stains right when they happen and choosing a durable type of carpet is a great way to keep your carpeting looking newer, longer.

Like with all of our flooring services, we will have the job done five days from your first call.  Our local services are geared towards serving you and we want to make it as quick and easy as possible to install your carpeting. We have professional installers strategically located throughout Southern New England, including the greater regions of Hartford, East Providence, and Fall River. Contact us and let us take the headache out of redoing your floors.
