LVT vs. Traditional Tile

Luxury vinyl tile is a cozy alternative to stone tile. One of the biggest complaints about traditional tile is that it gets very cold, especially here in our winter climate. LVT is much warmer and more comfortable underfoot. Luxury vinyl tile installation is easier on your budget than tile, while offering a far more natural look than linoleum. In fact, we can even grout vinyl tile, making it indistinguishable from stone. It’s also far more impact resistant – if you drop something heavy on vinyl tile, it won’t smash like a stone tile will.

How long do I have to wait after vinyl tile installation until I can walk on my new floors?

In order to give the adhesive time to fully dry, we recommend keeping the foot traffic to a minimum for 24 hours after the vinyl tile installation. But once those 24 hours have passed, your vinyl flooring is ready for whatever you throw at it! We recommend a three day waiting period before cleaning the floors to be sure that the adhesive is totally stable.

Can vinyl tile installation be done over other floors?

In some cases, our vinyl tile installation can be done over other types of floors.

Concrete: Sheet vinyl can be installed over concrete if the surface of the concrete is clean, smooth and dry. We will repair any holes or cracks and smooth out uneven bumps.
Linoleum or vinyl flooring: Vinyl tile installation can be done over old linoleum or vinyl flooring if the existing floor is in good condition. If the old floor has a rough texture or indentations we will need to smooth those out. Badly damaged or loose vinyl or linoleum will need to be removed.
Hardwood: Vinyl tile installation can be done over hardwood as long as the floor is smooth and even. If the floor is flawed, simply sanding it down and smoothing it out will solve that problem so we can install your new floor.
Badly damaged floors: Vinyl tile installation cannot be done over a buckled or uneven floor. If we cannot fix your floor, you might need to replace it altogether. It may also be possible to cover the old underlayer of plywood with a new layer.
