What is LVP?

Luxury vinyl plank is luxury vinyl tile designed to (convincingly) imitate wood flooring. While they’re essentially the same product, luxury vinyl plank specifically refers to the wood look and is shaped in planks. Unlike wood, it’s waterproof, can be laid over tile or concrete, and doesn’t swell when exposed to moisture or temperature change. These qualities make LVP perfect for basements, kitchens, and bathrooms.

LVP vs. Wood

Luxury vinyl plank is tougher than wood, so it’s perfect when you have pets or are just generally hard on your floors. It looks realistic because patterns don’t repeat in the individual planks. We install LVP by staggering each plank just like wood. Finally, wood floors tend to be more traditional, and vinyl plank can provide a trendier look (it’s often what you see on home design shows).

How long before I can walk on my new vinyl floors?

The adhesive needs to dry, so we recommend waiting 24 hours after the vinyl plank installation. After that, your vinyl flooring is ready! We recommend a three day waiting period before cleaning the floors to be sure that the adhesive is totally stable.

Can vinyl plank installation be done over existing floors?

In some cases, our vinyl plank installation can be done over other types of floors.

Concrete: Vinyl plank installation can be done over concrete, assuming it’s clean, smooth and dry. We will repair any holes or cracks and smooth out uneven bumps.
Linoleum or vinyl flooring: Vinyl plank installation can be done over old linoleum or vinyl flooring if it’s in good condition. If the old floor has a rough texture or indentations we will need to smooth those out. Badly damaged or loose vinyl or linoleum will need to be removed.
Hardwood: Vinyl plank installation can be done over hardwood as long as the floor is smooth and even. If the floor is flawed, simply sanding it down and smoothing it out will solve that problem so we can install your new floor.
Badly damaged floors: Vinyl plank installation cannot be done over a buckled or uneven floor. If we can’t fix your floor, you might need to replace it altogether. It may also be possible to cover the old underlayer of plywood with a new layer.
