What to know about carpeting
We’re seeing more and more homeowners choose carpeting to complete their home projects. Carpeting is warmer and cozier than hardwood flooring. If you’re designing a room that will allow kids to play comfortably on the floors or looking for a less slippery surface to walk on, carpet may be the best choice for you.
The Benefits of Carpet
Carpeting offers a cozy flooring choice, eliminates fear of falling, and helps with allergies by trapping allergens out of the air. It also helps insulate sound. Advances in fiber and backing technologies have made carpeting more durable and elegant, so you don’t have to worry about wear and tear from pets or children.
Choosing Carpeting Tips
At Ace Flooring in Warwick we’ve worked with every available carpet. You won’t find our level of expertise elsewhere in Southern New England. We offer a wide and varied array of carpets to choose from and can help you decide what style of carpet will meet the needs of your unique home.

Cut Pile Carpeting Options
- Plush- This carpeting option has a smooth, even look and offers a more luxurious aesthetic to your home. But, because of the smooth finish, it can get damaged in high traffic areas.
- Textured- Textured options are made with low density fibers of uneven heights. Because of the uneven surface, dirt and stains are harder to see. It’s a more informal option, and it can work in any area of your home.
- Cable- This is a great carpeting option to make a room a little more cozy. Thick, long fibers provide a soft feeling underfoot when you walk on it, but it can get matted if there’s too many people walking over it. It’s a great option for bedrooms, but not for places in your home where a lot of traffic takes place.
- Frieze- This carpet design has a more informal look to it. Long fibers with more twists hide footprints and other marks better than other carpeting options, and the durability means it’s a good choice for high traffic parts of your home. If the piles are longer, this carpet is usually called a “shag” rug.
- Saxony- Saxony has longer fibers than plush carpeting, and the fibers have a twist to them that tend to show footprints and other marks more than other carpeting options. This means it’s not great for high traffic areas or areas where there’s a lot of kid’s activity going on.
Loop Pile Carpeting Options
- Berber- This is also known as “level loop” style carpeting. Berber has short looped fibers that are great for high traffic areas because they are so durable. The finished look is informal and the coloring can hide dirt and stains, but the seams are more visible because of the fiber’s height.
- Cut and Loop– Cut and Loop is a combination of cut pile and loop pile fibers. The combination adds texture that hides footprints, stains, and dirt, which makes it a great option for highly trafficked areas.
- Patterned Multi-Level Loop– This option is exactly what it sounds like- the loops that make up the carpet are multiple levels which adds texture to the carpet, or they can create a pattern for the carpet. It stands up well under foot traffic.
Can I walk on my new carpet right away?
The best part about installing carpet is that there is no drying time involved. Once your carpet is installed you have full reign of the new area. Just be aware that the adhesive may have an odor for up to 48 hours after the installation, and that your carpet may be shedding fibers for the first few days after its installation.
How long does carpeting last?
Most carpeting we install in homes across RI, MA and CT has a lifespan of about 10-12 years. Once it reaches that point, it is usually threadbare, matted, and lacking the luster of a brand new carpet.
What can I do to keep my carpet looking new?
Using vacuums or steam cleaners regularly will help keep your carpet looking like new. Also, dealing with stains right when they happen and choosing a durable type of carpet is a great way to keep your carpeting looking newer, longer.

“I called Ace Wood Flooring to sand and refinish three rooms in my house. Troy and Jayson came to my house that day and gave me an estimate. I hired them right then. My floors came out amazing! Now I have a kitchen to tile and Ace Wood Flooring will be doing that as well. Thank you Ace.”
Ted L“We recently utilized ACE to redo our basement floor. Overall, my husband and I are very pleased with our experience with ACE. We found the pricing to be reasonable and the final product was beautiful. The workmen showed up on time and were very pleasant.”
Katherine CI received 3 quotes to provide leopard print rugs on my stairs and Ace came in the quickest and the middle of the prices. Long story short everyone from the owner, Troy to the person who installed the rugs and his assistant were amazing. They stayed until the job was done and it is so beautiful I could not be happier …. I have never had such a good experience with any kind of contractor…..If I could give them more stars I would and I don’t give out stars easily.
